At New Horizons Shelter and Outreach Centers, we are
dedicated to providing safe haven and comprehensive support for individuals and
families experiencing abuse. Our emergency shelter serves as a crucial first
step towards escaping abusive environments and is accessible through our
24-hour crisis line, where our compassionate, trauma-informed crisis advocates
are ready to listen and assist.
Within our shelter, an advocate is available Monday-Friday
and works closely with shelter residents to provide on-going support, navigate
barriers, set achievable goals, and empower them to start new lives free of
violence as they transition out of shelter and into new homes.
Our youth and family advocate works with families both within
shelter and in the community to provide support and services with the children’s
best interests in mind. This program ensures that families receive tailored support,
including children’s support groups and parenting skills training for
non-offending parents.
Beyond our shelter, we operate two outreach offices in La
Crosse and Whitehall which provide services to survivors in the community who
are not residing in our shelter. Our Whitehall office specifically serves
Trempealeau County. Our outreach advocates give vital assistance with safety
planning and legal advocacy, offer non-biased listening and emotional support, provide
referrals to community resources, and educate and empower survivors to
recognize red flags and foster healthy relationships.
Additionally, our Victims Service Coordinator, in
collaboration with the Domestic Abuse Reduction Team (DART) at City Hall,
offers intensive case management and follow up for high-risk cases and those
facing repeated domestic violence. This program pairs advocates with local law
enforcement to enhance safety planning efforts.
We are also committed to education and prevention, offering
complimentary programs and training to schools, colleges, fait-based organizations,
businesses, civic groups, and more. Throughout the year, we host several
awareness events and fundraisers to engage the community in our mission.
Together, we are creating a community that is safe for all.
