Who We Are
The Vernon County Big Buddy program is a new program that aims at our area youth ages 4-17 that may benefit from someone in their life. A lot of the youth that we assist come from low income houses, single parent houses, a parent that is currently or has previously been incarcerated, has experienced trauma or abuse, has anger issues or developmental diagnosis. This is a new program that we have created due to the extreme need of a mentor/ Big Buddy. We have organized similar to our neighboring counties PALS program.
How Volunteers Help
Big Buddy/Little Buddy- Our county has a growing need for mentors as they would be extremely beneficial to a lot of children that need someone to talk to, hang out with and relax. Some need father/mother figures or even sibling figures as many do not have/have not experienced the relationship that others have. We match our volunteers to children by needs, interests, likes and dislikes. You meet with the coordinator and your little buddy for the initial meet and greet then you have the freedom to decide what you would like to do. All volunteers must be able and willing to pass a background check and sign privacy forms. All volunteers will receive a certificate of completed hours. We would like to have volunteers be willing to see there little buddy at minimum of 2 times per month and be willing to participate in the program for 1 year at a time due to attachment issues.
