Who We Are
The Sports, Therapeutic and Adaptive Recreation (STAR) Association is a volunteer driven non-profit that aims at removing barriers to physical activity for those with disabilities, so they may lead active and healthy lives. Access to physical activity has been shown to improve health outcomes, decrease depression, improve self confidence and self esteem. Youth that have been involved in adaptive sport programs have higher graduation rates, attend higher education more often, and have higher employment rates. Adaptive sports build skills that carry over to success in everyday life.
How Volunteers Help
We need individuals with all sorts of skill sets, from direct assistance with our participants, behind the scene organization, creative marketing, equipment maintenance, to fundraising, there are many opportunities for you to get involved. Whether you are joining us for a one day event, or committing to a season, your involvement is greatly appreciated and helps reach our goal of making us a more inclusive community. Your involvement will impact the lives of many individuals not just for a day, but for a lifetime. You do not have to have experience with adaptive activities, only a willingness to serve others. We will train you.
