Who We Are

Norskedalen (which means the Norwegian Valley), is a nature and heritage center dedicated to preserving, interpreting and sharing the natural environment and cultural heritage of the area surrounding Coon Valley in southwest Wisconsin. Norskedalen has so much to offer in so many different ways, exploring the natural beauty, regional history and traditional cultural heritage of the region.

How Volunteers Help

Our mission is to preserve and interpret the natural environment and cultural heritage of the region, to make people aware of and sensitive to these resources and to provide educational opportunities at all levels through its arboretum, nature and heritage centers, and staff-both volunteer and professional.

In order to accomplish our mission, we offer a variety of programming and special events:

  • A wide array of special events throughout the year.  Some events include the Midsummer Fest, Ghoulees in the Coulees, and Old Fashioned Christmas. Please visit our website for all special event listings and details
  • Educational programs for youth.  Norskedalen offers educational heritage and nature programs year-round. We work with over 1500 children at Norskedalen each year, teaching classes in history, heritage, and nature. Our experienced staff and volunteers teach a wide array of programs and activities
  • Programming for adults. We offer Heritage classes which promote the learning of historical crafts.  We also have our "Sometimes on a Sunday" program, which brings in guest speakers to lecture on a wide array of topics, from history, to travel, to nature, and more
  • Tours of the homestead.
